Life is a journey full of mysterious detours and partnerships that I could never have imagined even in my wildest dreams. This book is the true story of a natural horsemanship journey and the horse – human partnership resulting from one of those unplanned detours. Rio Bravo Rocky Road (known as Rocky) is a very proud and dominant Tennessee Walking Horse. His natural mastery of the dominance games and left brained thinking skills would enable him to survive under extreme conditions in the wild. Unfortunately, Rocky’s natural drive to be the dominant member of every relationship led to some very dangerous and aggressive behavior toward humans.

I learned to play and win the ultimate game of dominance using natural horsemanship techniques with Rocky. Actually, Rocky and I are both winners of the dominance game because of the strong bond and partnership we formed during our natural horsemanship journey. Along the way, Rocky lost a lot of angry emotional baggage and became a happy horse willing to form a horse – human partnership. Instead of greeting me with his attitude of “I am ready to beat you in the dominance games today”, he eagerly trots to meet me in the pasture to see what the new day has to offer us. Rocky is finally happy living the life of a horse with his human partner. This change has made all of my sweat and tears along the natural horsemanship detour worthwhile.
